On the hottest day of the year, the rural seaside town held its pageant. The residents wore their favourite clothes, or dressed-up as schoolgirls, bears and wrestlers. Land Rovers were made into floats. Everyone's dog was judged in the ring until a ball brought the competition to a halt. Under the new sun, pebbledash terraces looked foreign. B&B signs became backdrops.
Here, any era or natio's influence was choreographed into an event.

Disco Gwerin (Folk Disco) is a short film observing a dancing competition at a seaside village pageant in North Wales. I did not expect to find American disco music and costumes from the 1980s combined with folk dance steps, performed to a backdrop of pebbledash houses and mountains. This type of unexpectedness, interrupting everyday life, is a continual source of interest and pleasure for me because it offers new perspectives on culture and encourages a revaluation of identities.
